Worked under two senior consultants with decades of experience. They taught me how to read the room, ask disarming questions, and earn trust with executives fast. I learned early that leadership isn't about control, it's about insight.
Witnessed the implosion of a division as two key executives resigned and 92 employees walked out, triggering 40 others to be laid off, including myself two weeks later. I had just seen how fragile even "solid" businesses can be. But that moment sparked a fire. I dove headfirst into continuous improvement, Lean systems, and Six Sigma frameworks, and I've never looked at leadership the same way since.
During the Great Recession, I was in the room for 18 rounds of layoffs and multiple branch closures. Not as a passive observer, I was part of the planning, the communication, the fallout. I saw what pressure does to leaders… and what clarity can prevent.
I was asked to help reshape the culture of a acquisition, where the staff had just voted in a union. I sat as Chief of Staff to a former military officer-turned-project manager for a $100+ million federal contract while also reported directly to the General Counsel and Executive Vice President of a $1 billion publicly traded company awarded the "Forbe's Top 100 Companies to Work For" each year of my employment. My job? Translate the human side of corporate culture.
I helped scale a startup from 4 people to 100+ in 6 months. By year two, we hit $80+M in revenue and continued growth over the coming years. I served as a behind-the-scenes operator for the President and CEO, helping shape a company culture so strong that 64% of those early hires stayed for over a decade.
